Smiths At Work

With most of the mud and muck cleared from the bowl and the rain finally starting to let up for real, there are murmurs of temporary measures being put in place to keep the lake from flowing out of the Weyr and on its merry way. With the mess cleared up, attention begins to turn properly to the discoveries made over the course of the exploration of the break in the bowl wall. It’s lucky that the Smiths are on hand, for their assistance will be required for more than damming-up the lake for now, especially if efforts are to be made to make the new rooms discovered functional once again.

Even with the lake prevented from flowing away, it’s obvious that it will remain a murky mess for a while yet, as water begins to circulate properly again and set everything to rights. The shoreline, however, requires more hands-on work, with riders and residents alike being assigned to the collection and deployment of materials to restore it to its former state.

Rumour has it that there might even be a Glasscrafter or two roaming the Weyr, called in to look-over the roof of the recently-discovered solarium.

Discoveries Under The Mud!

On day 28, month 3 of turn 23, a contingent of Istan riders turned up again to help with digging out Fort’s bowl. This time though they were accompanied by none other than Ista’s own Weyrwoman and her gold Safriath.

The day proved eventful, with different groups splitting off from the main working party, finding interesting remnants of ages past that were buried under the earthslide the knocked out the western end of the bowl hundreds of turns ago.

Among the discoveries:

* A ‘pillar’ or promontory in the middle of the open space between the northern and southern sides of the opening in the bowl. B’kaiv, Kaida and Ch’son of Ista did much of the digging around the pillar which seems to extend all the way to the bowl floor and appears to have carved shelves on it.
* T’rev and Nenita cleared off the top of the ’stair to nowhere’ that apparently heads off into the bowl wall where a broom closet and an old solarium can be found as well as several side passages that remain unexplored. Ista’s Weyrwoman and Flint’s wingleader also found a box of what look like old letters and records on a shelf in the broom closet. This item has been turned over to the Weyr’s harpers for safe-keeping and proper handling of the items inside.
* M’try and Vanissa stumbled through a crack in the bowl wall on the southern side of the mudslide and found an underground room that might once have been a bathing cavern. Darkness prevented the pair from exploring further, but plans are afoot to explore with ropes and lights and get it all figured out in the next few days.

For logs of the exploration, check out the first part here: http://community.livejournal.com/fortnc/21132.html and T’rev and Nenita’s exploration of the stairs here: http://community.livejournal.com/fortnc/21394.html. Other parts of the exploration to follow on the FortNC LJ.

Peirith and Dargonath’s Eggs Clutched

Mid-afternoon on day 25 of month 3, after a full day of pacing about the Sands, Peirith finished clutching a grand total of fourteen eggs. Notably, nobody but the Weyrleaders and Dargonath were permitted to witness this event, though there’s word of the galleries being open once more by evening for anybody wishing to go and study the clutch and begin the usual bet-taking, telling of tales of Impression and so on.

Mudslide Room

Hey there Fort! The Southern Bowl has been edited to accommodate the mudslide – the Lake Shore, Herb Garden and Lakeside Grove are currently inaccessible and a mudslide room has been opened on that end of the bowl. The room is set up with several ‘easter eggs’ and we invite all to come explore the room as part of your cleanup RP and see what you stumble upon.

We’ll also be doing some further cleanup RP on Sunday that will lead to some specific discoveries that all are welcome to join in on.

Landslide Cleanup

day 19, month 3, turn 23 of Interval 10
Four days after the landslide, the skies cleared up, the sun came out and the Weyr bustled about cleaning up the mess, ushering in exhaustion and rampant muddiness. Even the pools in the hot springs were somewhat taxed to keep up with all of the residents and riders washing down after massive efforts to dig up mud. A few more days have been spent digging and discussions are continuing concerning how to deal with the fact that Fort is almost entirely missing one end of the bowl. After only a brief reprieve, the rain has started up again, though its efforts are being seen as far more helpful this time as it starts to wash yet more muck down the mountainside and away from the Weyr.

If the rain keeps up like this, it could just wind up taking care of all the cleaning on its own. The only problem is; what will hold the lake in if the earthslide is all gone?

Landslide!

The frequent rain that spring has brought with it might have been fun for any dragons with a fondness for playing in the mud, but the whole affair became distinctly less fun for everyone at Fort when, early morning on day 9, month 3, the weather’s onslaught resulted in the collapse of the earthslide occupying the southwest of the bowl. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, though a number of the Weyr’s herd lost their lives in the incident.

With the earthslide having collapsed, a sizeable portion of Fort’s bowl lies open, with debris scattered down the slope to the weyr and through the bowl itself. At present, the lake is little more than muddy soup and its shore will definitely need cleaning-up in the near future. Word has it that candidates are being set to clean-up duty in place of some of their usual chores, alongside riders and anyone with a spare hour willing to donate their time. As some semblance of order is restored, the Weyrleaders are seeking assistance from Smiths and the Minecraft, looking to the Halls for options. Will the bowl wall be left as is? Dammed up? Or might there now be access to something worth exploring?

Though the bowl itself has altered quite dramatically, images for Between remain notably unaltered, being that the star stones and tooth crag that serve so often as reference points for travel to Fort are still intact. Any riders using a broader image are being advised to stick to using one of the two aforementioned features for now.

Fort-Boll Region Spring Gathers, Turn 23

In spite of the drippy conditions, the region’s spring gathers are starting up, with Boll kicking off the season, where it’s mercifully dry. Trade seems to be up this turn in general, though there’s still some unease that flows beneath the surface of things at the gathers in Fort’s coverage area especially as the area struggles to recover economically from the ravages of the past few turns.

Spring Gathers:

Boll: 3/15 – 3/20
Gar Hold: 3/21 – 3/24
Fort Seahold: 3/25 – 3/28
Fort Hold: 4/1 – 4/8
Ruatha Seahold: 4/9 – 4/13
Ruatha Hold: 4/14 – 4/21
Peyton Hold: 4/22 – 4/27
Fort Weyr: First Day celebration on 5/1.

Other smaller hold gathers to take place throughout the region ad hoc.

Let It Rain

day 1, month 3
Winter has officially retreated, leaving Fort suddenly snow-free as spring rains roll in and wash what little lingered in the Bowl from one of the few big snow storms to hit the Weyr this winter. At first, the warming up might be hailed with cheer, but then it keeps on raining. Day after day after day …
