Famous for its runners and dragonrider-inclined bloodline, Ruatha was founded ten turns after the Crossing to relieve population pressures at Fort Hold. Ruatha has often held a prominent role in Pern’s history: its spring gather in the 43rd turn of the Sixth Pass was a spreading point for the Plague, and 9th Pass Benden’s legendary Weyrwoman, Lessa was a scion of the Ruathan bloodline and searched at the hold.

Located almost due north of Fort Hold, the hold overlooks the Ruatha River and is also known for the clear blue Ice Lake up in the mountains above the hold, ice cold the turn around.
