The day after the chaotic flight that saw two queens seriously injured, word spread around the Weyr that the Weyrleaders have commanded Preita and Yshtiath to leave Fort, with a formal request lodged to her home Weyr to retrieve the junior weyrwoman. Certainly, Yshtiath will have to be removed before the time comes for either queen to clutch as there’s no way the two can share the sands. Unfortunately removing them is going to prove problematic, because word from the dragonhealers is that Yshtiath currently cannot fly and is unable to go Between, meaning that Fort will have to put up with the pair until the injured queen has healed enough to move on her own steam, or another means of transport possibly using other larger dragons can be arranged. In the meantime, Preita is once again, confined to quarters and Yshtiath isn’t going to be leaving her ledge or wallow any time soon.

Early afternoon on the last day of month 4, turn 25, Elaruth rose in what was meant to be a closed leadership flight. However, not all went to plan and not only were High Reaches and Igen dragons caught up in the chase, but junior queen Yshtiath too, Preita having not left the Weyr as advised. In the end, both queens were caught, Elaruth by her mate Mecaith and Yshtiath by Igen bronze Aldroth, but not before each suffered injuries of varying seriousness. It remains to be seen what will be done about Preita and Yshtiath, but surely the Weyrleaders cannot let her foolishness go unpunished. That is, if Yshtiath’s injuries aren’t already punishment enough.

OOC: Thank you to everyone involved in the flight(s)! Kaida for NPCing Preita and Yshtiath, Taikrin for having Szadath enter the fray and Lujayn for NPCing Ke’hai and Aldroth!

At this point we’d like to reach out to our playerbase as admins for any ideas you’ve got tumbling around in the back of your heads that you’d like to work on, or threads that you see coming together and would like to push forward.

Well, the lake is still there. That’s got to be good, right? It’s taken quite some time to make sure the lake stays where it is and sort out the waterfall business, but the patched-up dam is now gone, replaced by a cleverly constructed channeling system that allows the water to cascade neatly down the mountainside without spreading out all over. Lucky for those with weyrs in the south of the bowl, the waterfall has a reasonably dull roar to it; certainly nothing deafening, though the noise might take some getting used to. Perhaps some might find it therapeutic?

The basic reconstruction work required to restore the solarium has also been completed, its multi-coloured glass roof and shutters now all in working order. Following the departure of the glasscrafters, the room has been cleaned to within an inch of its life under the supervision of the Headwoman, and, though all looks rather basic and bare for now, new hangings and coverings will soon be making an appearance (even if, given the region’s recovering economy, some might not be absolutely, just-woven brand new). Plans for the promised turnover concert are still in motion, the Weyrleaders playing an active part in putting together the whole event. Requests and ideas from residents are certainly being welcomed, as is participation by crafters, current and former.

Click “Continue reading” below to see the room desc for the falls area of the bowl.

Rising up from the bowl floor roughly in the middle of the open space between the broken arms of the bowl wall, are three promontories of stone, the shortest is only a few feet off the ground and slouches to the far left of the other two, both about the height of a full-sized adult. The central pillar is uneven and boasts the oddity of a half-set of shelves carved at roughly the right height for reaching up frm the ground. The rightmost pillar is narrower, though it thickens toward the top and is notched and grooved along its length from thousands of turns of pressure from the earthslide that used to lie on top of it.

A stone-lined channel guides water from the lake between the pillars where it cascades off the end of the bowl and down the mountainside away from the Weyr in a series of stepped falls and pools. Beyond the rightmost pillar, a set of stairs rises up from a rough arm of stone that used to be a part of the bowl wall and continues on into the wall itself through a carved opening.

Did last night bring with it an entire season’s worth of rain? No, it didn’t, but there’s length of water flooding the south end of Fort’s bowl that, well, isn’t the lake. The lakeside grove isn’t precisely in an absolute shambles, but that whole area is looking quite marshy. Word has it that teams of Smiths were forced to work through the night and well into the morning to try and repair the damage to the dam currently keeping the lake in its normal state; the dam that broke and redirected water back into the bowl. Now they’re saying that the only solution is something entirely different; that Fort will soon have a waterfall cascading down the mountainside. In the meantime… at least the flood is manageable and being dealt with much more easily than the mudslide was.
