Turn 21: Summer Gathers

In spite of the faltering Fortian economy with rampant uncertainty about the delivery of supplies, prices fluctuating wildly and trade disruptions up and down the eastern seaboard due to the ongoing sea and land-based raiding, Fort’s holders are continuing to put a brave face on things and holding the usual round of summer gathers, though many of them are focusing strongly on trying to boost trade and using the gathers to make sure that traders, crafters and holders get hooked up with the items they need to continue to conduct their usual business. Fort Hold is posting guards extensively along its roads in knots of 5 to 20 through the gather season to afford some protection to travelers and traders, while the Weyr is fielding constant near-constant sweeps over the region and escorting many ships and trader caravans in an effort to prevent further attacks.

Fort Hold: 7/4 – 7/11 (Event on Dec 19)
Gar Hold: 7/18 – 7/20 (~Dec 21)
Boll Hold: 7/21 – 7/28 (~Dec 22 – 23)
Ruatha River Hold (~Dec 25): 8/1-8/2
Ruatha Hold: 8/3 – 8/8(~Dec 26 – 27)
Peyton Hold: 8/9 – 8/12(~Dec 27 – 29)

Boat, Raider and Local News

Day 28, Month 5, Turn 21 of Interval 10
It’s finally come out more publicly that a) another body from the Scudder’s crew, with stab wounds, but in even worse condition than the first was found and b) a large piece of wreckage was also located in a rather tangly location that is difficult to scout from above. Riders have been assisting guards and other volunteers from Boll with searching the area around where the wreckage was found for any further clues as to what happened to the Scudder and her crew. If no further evidence comes to light, the conclusion is likely to be that some kind of fight took place on board, maybe even a mutiny due to the way the storm was handled and the storm took her down.

In the meantime, the raids continue and Bollian shipping as well as trade along all routes to the north of the Weyr and immediately south is getting more and more seriously interrupted. While some orders are coming in, it’s 50/50 on whether or not something will or will not arrive or be in decent condition when it does. Things that do arrive are not arriving on time at all.

The mood around Fort Weyr and Fort Hold is getting tense – many crafters at the Weyr are making noises about leaving again, requesting postings outside of the Fort area, while down at the Hold, whispers about Lord Savilan’s and the Weyr’s perceived mishandling of the problem are growing louder.

Riders out on sweeps may find their reception much less warm than in prior turns, especially in places where supplies are very thin on the ground. Some frustration is also starting to focus on crafters themselves due to commissions not delivered on time, or at all.
