It might take a few days to notice, but after the evening of the 22nd of month 11, Fiorella, the Weyrleader’s foster-daughter starts turning up around the Weyr again and seems to be staying with the Weyrleader or in a room in the dorms, depending on whom you ask. Harpers are often more frequent visitors at Fort and several groups of riders have been dispatched to fulfill special duties, keeping track of guards on the roads, while others have been set to keep a close watch on the port at Fort Sea. What’s that all about? Aren’t the troubles with that hold long over? Either way you slice it, it can’t be pleasant to be hanging out in the late autumn weather as the cold closes in around the more northern stretches of Fort Weyr’s coverage area.

It might take a few days before the news makes it all the way around the entire Weyr, but it does eventually make it. Apparently on day 12 of month 11, Jaeyi’s firelizard Sugar turned up at the Weyr squawking like crazy and trying to get anyone’s attention that he could. Efforts to communicate with the lizard were frustrating, but eventually yielded the idea that the Baker was in some kind of trouble. Reaching out to contacts at the Hold would quickly reveal that the Baker was caught lifting important Hold papers out of Esraval’s desk, a crime of treason which has seen her sent to the Fort Hold lockup with a strictly controlled visitor list.
The Weyrleader has been beyond grim-faced since and his usual cheer is utterly lacking though he continues to carry out his duties without fail.

Late in the evening of the first day of month 9, after more than a full day of labor, Isobel of Fort Hold bore Lord Esraval a son. Though it was generally known about the hold that she’d gone into labor, the birth announcement was delayed by days, and there was a great deal of coming and going of healers: apparently things were touch and go for a while, for one or both. But finally, a full sevenday later, Isobel and Esraval formally presented their son to the hold: Traivon, named in honor of Esraval’s father Laivon and Isobel’s brother At’re.

Hey there Fort!
We did a little bit of grid cleanup today and also took the opportunity to add
some new rooms to the grid for casual RP and for specific purposes around
the Weyr. Most of the rooms should show up on +tel/ftw. Rooms added
include:%r
Nighthearth (off the LC), Lavatory (off the commons), Classroom (off the
commons), Lakeside Grove (off the Lake Shore), Flight Cave (off the
southern bowl – replaces the Guest Weyr for flights! The Guest Weyr is
still accessible but as an actual guest weyr for visiting riders.).
Most of the caverns area of the grid was cleaned up with significant desc
tweaks as well. Have fun with the new spaces and if you have an idea for a
room, or catch any errors, please drop a line to ftwadmin.

Hey there folks,
Anyone interested in some plot RP involving the ‘enforcers’, please drop +mail
to ftwadmin if you’d like to be involved in a visit to a local waystation
for a little R&R and winding up seeing or hearing about the place getting
tossed ‘looking for raiders’.

Hey there Fort,
In light of the recent addition of a Healer at Fort Weyr and other new players
coming into the fold, we’ve updatd the ‘Character Concepts’ page on the
website. Please note the addition of ‘Traditional Riders’ and ‘Refugees’
to the list. We’re also still looking for a hold-based Healer character.
If a current Fort player would like to pick up this role as a temporary
plot role, that’s also an option. This character has the opportunity to
discover some things about Fort’s Holding family and affect plot outcome.

With the recent raider arrests and the increased presence of guards throughout
the region, the summer gather season has been going full-tilt with a lot
of trade and a lot of celebration going on. Here’s the summary of gathers
for the major and minor holds in the Fort region. Smaller hold’s gathers
have been ongoing around the major ones as well:
* Ruatha Hold: 6/15 – 6/19
* Fort Hold: 7/1 – 7/7
* Southern Boll Hold: 7/14 – 7/19 (Apr 20-22)
* Gar Hold: 7/22 – 7/25 (Apr 23 – 24)
* Peyton Hold – 8/1 – 8/6 (Apr 25 – 26)

Keeping all those extra guards on retainer may have raised eyebrows here and there when it appeared that the raiders had been eradicated once for all, but in the wake of the recent apprehension in Peyton’s outlying hills, now-Lord Esraval’s apparent caution has certainly proven to be a good thing. Smallholders throughout the Fort Area, particularly those in areas that saw heavy raider activity in the recent turns, have requested and received increased support in the form of small companies of Fort guards being posted out to their areas. These groups are being housed either at the Holds, or at Waystations along the roads, their purpose being to ferret out any stubborn pockets of raiders that remain and to protect traders and travellers from the depredations of such folk. While surely such measures are expected to be temporary, these guards look to be settling in comfortably for long stays — just more evidence of the new Lord’s concern for the welfare of the people within the region, certainly.
Please feel free to make up NPCs who might be playing host to guards, or to assume that guards have taken up residence with your personal family if you have a background that is Fort-local. Riders will be bumping into these guards on patrols and you’re welcome to play out scenes wherein guards and riders mix it up, since the Weyrleader is also running air-based patrols. References to the guards in scenes are also more than welcome and their presence could be an impetus for putting a stop to Weyr-based patrols: “Hey, why are /we/ patrolling if the Hold has guards posted everywhere? Isn’t this a hold matter? We’re sick of doing the hold’s work for Esraval and not getting the credit.” Or if your character is in favor of continuing with Weyr-based patrols, to support that position instead.

A small patrol group of riders bumped into a slightly large group of raiders on day 7 of month 7, hiding out in the Peyton hills. Prisoners and goods were taken and the prisoners are being questioned at the Weyr before being turned over to the Hold. One rider, S’von, blue Toslimeth’s was badly hurt in the leg and is going to be laid up in the infirmary for a good long time to recover. Other injuries were minor. However, there’s a lot of talk about the fact that the raiders had ‘lizards and that most of those ‘lizards considered Fort Sea to be … home.
