Kitchen workers typically have slightly different shifts, with the bread bakers expected in the kitchens between 4 and 5am to get bread ready for the day.
Nannies and other childcare workers also work around the clock in shifts in a manner similar to the healers so that there is always someone minding the infants and young children of the lower caverns. Most children who are fostered with fosterers who are not childcare workers are dropped off for care in the morning and are in care until the evening meal at which point they join their foster-parents and spend the night with their foster-parents or may doss down with the other kids in the children’s dorms which are separate from the adult dorms.
Infirmary assistants also work around the clock in shifts to assist the healers in the Weyr’s infirmary.
Records-workers may expect to have some evening shifts, but the Records room ‘closes to the public’ at 10pm and the front doors are locked, though access to Records can still be gained by going in through the Weyrleaders’ complex.
Bartenders and servers at The Glass Fountain have shifts as worked out with the bar’s managers, Harry and Al.
