Goldrider Policy

By their very nature, goldriders are a rare commodity, and gold dragons do not hatch very often, especially in an Interval setting such as that presented on NorCon. In order to strike a balance between the need and desire to have goldrider player characters with the ability to keep Fort a dynamic RP environment, we have adopted the following guidelines for goldrider characters at Fort Weyr:

  • Most goldriders who Impress at Fort Weyr will be RP-only. We have a decoupled IC/OOC admin structure at Fort and while we certainly welcome interest in administrative duties from anyone wishing to play a goldrider, taking on the role of Senior Weyrwoman does not automatically convey an OOC Admin role, or Lead Admin status.
  • Goldriders who would like to have a clutch should let the admin team know that they would like to be placed into the rotation for a PC clutch. Any goldrider wishing to host a clutch should remain active and visibly RPing between cycles to remain eligible for clutch hosting. If a goldrider goes idle bewteen cycles without contacting the admin team, we reserve the right to re-assign the next PC clutch to another goldrider.
  • All goldriders should expect to have at least one NPC clutch every few IC turns, which works out to about once a year RL at 3:1 time, assuming approximately 3 turns to every 1 year RL. NPC clutches will occur roughly around the time that gold would reasonably be expected to rise, assuming Interval timing of clutches. NPC clutches will not be themed, but bbposts will be made about the flight, clutching and hatching and goldriders are more than welcome to draft the posts and RP around having a clutch.
  • Goldriders who are inactive (logging in but not RPing), will be considered NPC-able after 3 months without RPing on-cam. This means that admins reserve the right to use the dragon to run NPC clutches and to provide information about where that rider is. We will extend the courtesy of trying to contact the inactive rider to get permission to use the rider’s gold, but if no response is forthcoming within 2 weeks, we will proceed with whatever actions are most conducive to supporting RP in the area. We will not however, use an inactive goldrider in any plot or story points or make any assumptions about that goldrider other than that they are around and in the background at the Weyr beyond including the gold in the NPC clutch rotation.
  • Goldriders who are idle (not logging in) for 6 weeks without notice to the admin team, will also be considered NPC-able. If a goldrider has left without notice or explanation and provided no IC reason for the departure, the admins reserve the right to come up with a plausible backstory to transfer the rider to an off-camera Weyr and/or to place the goldrider on the NPC list under +npc.
  • Goldriders who idle for 12 weeks will be naturally reaped by the game, per the gamewide idle policy. Once a goldrider has been reaped, control of the character will revert to the Fort admin team. The character will be placed in +npc and the admins may use the character as an emitted NPC in scenes that advance the RP at the Weyr.
  • Goldriders who decide to leave the game and do so with notice, are encouraged to come up with a plausible backstory for their departure, or grant permission for the admins to use the character as a background NPC. There are many options for the plausible backstory and include but are not limited to: transferring to another Weyr, incurring a disability that prevents the gold from rising, age-related issues or death. If granting permission for NPC status, the goldrider may work with the admins to let the team know how to handle the character. In the absence of any input from the goldrider’s player, the Fort admin team will make a determination about the goldrider character and dragon.
  • Goldriders who leave the game and then return at a future date after being reaped and put into +npc may apply to the admin team for re-instatement, but will need to acknowledge any plot/story that has taken place that involves the character in the interim.
