Search Process
Though Fort Weyr has used a Search Committee in the past, this search cycle, we will not be using a Search Co to select our weyrling group. Though Fort has a Search Co, this group of people are involved in dragon writing only and do not cast votes or decide Impressions unless in exceptional circumstances (see more applicants than Impression slots).
Instead, all current members of the Weyr are invited to use +comment to provide constructive comments about all candidates.
All applicants will be Searched unless an objection is raised by a member of members of the Weyr or unless an applicant goes idle.
Candidates will impress based on +comments received by members of the Weyr and behaviour observed during the Search cycle. If an applicant goes idle during the cycle, they will not be eligible for Impression.
Only serious objections backed by logs will entail a ‘no Search/Impress’ status for an applicant.
Examples of serious objections include but are not limited to:
- Player harassment
- Inappropriate behavior in a public room
- Lack of understanding of the game’s setting, theme and rules and repeated demonstration of this lack of understanding.
- Consistent rudeness to players either OOC in scenes, by page or in knot chatter.
- Repeated demonstration of an inability to understand the difference between IC and OOC.
- Consistent and repeated inappropriate use of the knot, paging or other communications.
The Weyr’s admin team will review any objections posted and coordinate with players to work out a resolution if possible, or inform an applicant of ‘no impress’ status along with reasons why.
If we do not have enough impression slots for all applicants, then we will let the candidate group know and offer the opportunity to go Stand Only on a volunteer basis. If we do not have enough volunteers, the dragonwriting team will convene to vote on the composition of the weyrling group.
Applicants will have the option to know the details of impression before the hatching if desired.
Any member of the Weyr may serve as a dragonwriter. Dragonwriters can expect to work collaboratively with the group of dragonwriters and editors throughout the writing process to craft a dragon that matches the applicant’s desired characteristics. Dragonwriting dates TBA.
Our goals with trying out this process instead of a traditional Search Committee-based process are to:
- Reduce the fishbowl effect
- Allow for greater comprehensiveness in our player group.
- Take a lot of the stress out of Search from both sides.
- Enhance communication between players and players and the admin team so that the development of a candidate or weyrling character is a collaborative process that lets everyone have as much fun with the experience as possible.
- Take some of the guess-work out of dragonwriting and make sure that every applicant is happy with the outcome of the hatching.
