Month 10+

Weyrling Duty & Wing Shadowing

RL Dates: Jan 31 – Feb 23, 2010

Dragon Age: 10 months – 13 months

Congratulations! You’ve made it to Senior Weyrlinghood! From here on out RP is completely free-form and you’re on your own cognizance basically as most weyrlings are rotated into a regular schedule of training and work, kind of like an ‘internship’, with each wing. Each weyrling will spend 1-1.5 weeks training with each of the 7 ‘professional’ wings at the Weyr, including the PC wings (Flint, Obsidian and Sandstone).

For this cycle, the rotation will start as follows and roughly every 2-3 RL days (6-9 IC days), switch to the next in the order until your character has gone through all 7 wings.

Just after the dragons hit 13 months, you will each be tapped in turn by a Fort wingleader and will move on to working full-time with your new wing. You will be notified via +mail about your wing assignment, but we encourage RP of the wing tapping with your wingleader if you’re able to schedule it.

Within a week RL of the dragons’ first turnday, a celebration will be held to honor the newly tapped riders and the end of Weyrlinghood for all. Please +mail ftwadmin with your best days and times to have a party!

Suggested RP/Vignette Topics

  • This month you get to start flying re-supply during Weyrwide drills. How does that go for you and your dragon? Do you take to it naturally, or is it hard for you to get a handle on the timing of the jumps? How about tossing the sacks of firestone right?
  • Wing Shadowing also starts this month, with a regular rotation of weyrlings shadowing the wings, observing and participating in their drills. Which wings do you like? Which don’t you like? What do you think of the wingleaders? How about the wingriders you meet? Is there a wing you’d like to get tapped into?
  • It’s all almost over. You’re a Senior Weyrling reporting to a different wingleader once every two weeks for the next two months. How does it feel to be almost done? Are you eager to be a full rider, or do you have some trepidation about being tapped?

Milestones

Dragonet

  • Dragons are just shy of their full size.
  • Dragons are eating every 3 days or so.
  • More males are maturing and may start chasing. You do not have to clear flights with the weyrlingmasters at this stage, just be aware that most young males are too immature to catch until they’ve passed the turn mark or later.
  • Greens should not rise until at minimum the turn mark and the turn-and-a-half mark is more canon. Golds typically do not rise until they are at least a turn-and-a-half to two turns old. In an Interval, two to three turns is more typical.

Weyrling

  • All classes are replaced with an even division of wing shadowing and duties.
  • Every weyrling is assigned to a regular wing to shadow during the wing’s regular drills and sometimes to a specific rider to shadow that rider on sweeps.
  • Weyrling Duty includes: elevator duty, messenger duty, transport duty, watchrider duty or whatever duties are assigned by the wingleader of the week.
  • During Weyrwide Threadfall simulations, the Weyrlings fly re-supply.
