Month 4

Straps, Mounted Ground Drills

RL Dates: Dec 2 – Dec 11, 2009
Dragon Age: 4 – 5 months

Suggested RP/Vignette Topics

  • Grab some weyrlingmasters and weyrlings and run an actual ground drill, mounted or on foot.
  • Write about or play about working on your straps. Is it easy or hard for you? What does your dragon think about the prospect of wearing straps?
  • Last month your dragon started gliding around, now that he/she is more used to flying, what’s his or her take on it? Most dragons love to fly, but is yours that rare exception who doesn’t? How about skill: is your dragon a fast, fleet, flyer, or a cautious, somewhat awkward creature in the air?
  • How about hunting? Since your dragon is now comfortably flying, he or she is also taking down live prey in the feeding grounds. How’s that going for you both?

Milestones

Weyrling

  • Ground drills of increasing complexity are taught.
  • Mounted ground drills using the simplest formations begin.
  • Weyrlings start hands-on strap-making, building on the theory studied in the last month.
  • Weyrlings should no longer have any trouble distinguishing between their own feelings and instincts and their dragons’.

Dragon

  • Daily flight sessions of increasing duration begin.
  • Dragonets are now big enough and strong enough to welcome their riders onto their backs but not to fly together.
  • Dragonets are close to a third of their full-grown size.
  • Dragonets can hunt on their own in the air.
  • Dragonet sensitivity is gone for all but the most sensitive.
