Month 5
Flying Together & Weyrs
RL Dates: Dec 12 – Dec 21, 2009
Dragon age: 5 months – 6 months
Suggested RP/Vignette Topics
- This month, you finally put your straps to the test with an inspection. How does it go? Are your straps okay? Does your dragon mind having them on? Do you have to do any work to make them better?
- After your first set of straps has been approved, you finally take off a-dragonback! Whee! Flying! Grab some weyrlingmasters and some clutchmates and head up into the skies for that first flight. How does it feel to finally be flying with your dragon? How doe your dragon feel about flying? Are you guys naturals or is it tough to get up there into the air, keep going when you’re up there and do you have rocky or smooth landings?
- Play or write about flying around the Weyr’s airspace: where do you go? How does it feel? Is it exhilarating or frustrating to be able to get up there but not go too far?
- Play or write about getting measured for leathers and a trip to Stores to get two ‘working’ sets of leathers from the cast-offs of past turns.
- Starting this month, you might be put into rotation on watch on the StarStones for flying practice and for a taste of rider duty.
- Weyr tour! Weyrlings go on a tour of the vacant weyrs available with the headwoman or one of her staff, or a weyrlingmaster.
- Play or write about getting your own weyr and moving in. What’s it like to live on your own? How much furniture did you have to get from Stores? Is it too quiet up there? Do you miss your Barracks-mates? Are you one of those rushing to take advantage of certain rules being lifted, or are you happy enough to wait for a while longer?
Milestones
Dragonet
- Dragons are now able to fly short distances comfortably, up to a few miles outside of the Weyr.
- Your first flight with your rider!
- Dragons are now just shy of half their full size
Weyrling
- Weyrlings should complete their first set of straps for inspection
- Strap inspection will take place in preparation for mounted flight
- Your first flight with your dragon!
- Move out of the Barracks and into your own private weyr.
- After five to six months of constant practice and drilling, most weyrlings should be in pretty good shape and easily be able to handle the required laps, calisthenics and other routine physical exercises.

7:00 AM – Breakfast
8:00 AM – Flying Practice
11:00 AM – Visualization Practice
12:00 PM – Lunch
1:00 PM – Flying practice and duties
4:00 PM – Designated homework/straps/punishment time

Rules & Restrictions
- Weyrlings may fly long (no Between!) accompanied by a Weyrlingmaster as far as Fort Hold towards the end of the month.
- Alcohol rules remain the same: don’t get drunk or your flight status may be revoked.
- Intimacy restrictions are lifted. Girls: If you get knocked up now, you’ll be a full rider by the time you deliver. It’ll just make for a sucky couple of months of training when you get big and your Between training might have to be postponed depending on the timing. The weyrlingmasters strongly counsel both prevention of pregnancy and a draught or long jump between to abort.
- Weyrlings must salute all riders, and may salute or bow to ranking Crafters and Holders.
