Mating Flight Quick Facts

Because the Mating Flight Handbook is so extensive and the IC info focuses on the flow and ‘how-to’ from an IC perspective of flights, we’ve broken down some quick facts in bullet-point format to help with some commonly asked questions about flights.

  • Do I have to RP sex after a flight?
Absolutely not. Some players choose to play out the natural consequences of a flight for the riders of the dragons involved as long as both players are consenting adults over the age of 18. However no player is ever obligated to RP sex and no player should ever try to force another player into playing this type of scene.
  • How often do golds rise to mate?
IC: Golds rise from 1 to 2 times per IC turn, with more flights occurring more frequently during a Pass and once every 2 to 4 turns during an Interval. At the height of an Interval, several turns may pass before a gold rises again. Please note that NorConMUSH is presently set in the 10th Interval and as such, most golds rise roughly every 3 turns.

OOC: Golds rise on-camera as needed per the NorConMUSH Hatching schedule. Check with the Weyrleaders at individual Weyrs for policies on off-camera flights.

  • How often do greens rise to mate?
IC: Greens rise about 3-4 times per turn or roughly every one and a half to one months RL.
OOC: Check +events for other greenflights and use common sense for scheduling your flight. If there’s already three flights that week, maybe try scheduling yours a week or two out. Many greenriders choose to alternate on-camera flights with off-camera flights to avoid flooding the game with flights.
  • When are dragons old enough to mate?
Some dragons mature quickly and may be old enough to rise as early as a turn old (from the DLG) but most won’t rise or chase until at least a turn and a half to two turns old. Conveniently enough, around the time Weyrlinghood is wrapping up. Male Weyrlings who want to chase prior to the end of Weyrlinghood, please touch base with the Weyrlingmaster/Weyrleaders for permission.
  • Do bronzes chase and catch greens?
Yes, NorConMUSH and it’s ancestor, PernMUSH have a long history of bronzes chasing and catching greens. However, please bear in mind the size disparity, especially when dealing with a particularly small green and a particularly large bronze. In that scenario, the bronze will have a really hard time keeping up with a tiny fleet green and smaller browns and blues are more likely to catch. Flight winners however, are always at the discretion of the greenrider running the flight.
  • Do blues and browns chase and catch golds?
Browns do chase and catch golds. Brown sires are fairly common on the game, especially when a Weyr is very sure that they will not have a gold egg in a clutch. There’s nothing to stop a blue from chasing unless the Senior queen grounds him. However blues really don’t have the stamina to last through an entire goldflight. The expectation on NorConMUSH is that blues do not chase Senior queens at all, will only rarely chase a junior and will never catch a gold at all.
